How to Save Money While Traveling!

We have been traveling quite a bit this past year and I have looked into ways to make sure we don’t spend as much when traveling. Even for a weekend getaway, we tend to spend more than we should. You have to consider all expenses that come with traveling! Food, gas, hotel, & entertainment. All of this tends to add up and before you know it, you’re driving back home and you take a look at your bank statement and start to question where did all your money go!! Or am I the only one that does this, lol?

If I want to keep traveling and just go away every once in a while, I have to come up with some ideas where we don’t spend as much so my husband would approve. And so I did some investigating and found a lot of good ideas. These are the ones that have actually worked on our road trips!

My personal favorite is Hotels.com. There are a lot more different websites where you can get deals as well, but like I mentioned before… this is the one I have actually tried and have been able to benefit from it and it is SIMPLE! All you have to do is create your account on Hotels.com and book your hotels through their website. After you have booked at least 10 nights with them, you get 1 night for FREE. (We are actually on a weekend getaway and to a bigger city about 3 hours away from our small town in East Tx and we don’t have to pay for our hotel so that is one less expense for us! YAY!)

Another way you can save money is on food! You can always go prepared and grab something  from your local grocery store like bread, ham, and cheese and just eat sandwhiches at your hotel room. Now, if you’re like me…then you won’t want to eat sandwiches while you’re on a getaway (BUT it is an option). I would raher save money on snacks for the road trip and drinks. What I like to do, is just take a sippy cup for each girl and take a big bottle of juice. That way I can always refill their cup if they want some more. I also take a big bag of chips and crackers and a couple of ziplock bags for them. If they want some chips, I give them a few chips in their baggies or any kind of snack that your kids like. That way, you don’t spend as much at gas stations!

Also, you can save money by using the app GROUPON. There are always really good deals on there for restaurants and entertainment centers that you can go to with your family. I have used it numerous times for 50% off at the movies, and for waterpark deals! Whatever helps to save money, right?

Last but not least, make sure to go prepared to travel. If you forget anything, you will most likely have to buy something at the store. That is technically an unnessasary expense if you had it at home to begin with. Try to make a list before leaving that way you don’t forget anything!

Hope these tips help you out! Let me know in the comments section below if you have any other ideas on saving money while traveling.
